Freedom for Chained Dogs the World Over
Richmond, Virginia
June 27, 2009
We had our Chain-Off on June 27th. Channel 12, Fox News, came out and interviewed us.
They are going to air the segment in the mornings and evenings all
week until July 5th. Very cool.
A friend of mine called this a.m. and a country music station,
K95Country in Richmond, VA saw the segment and did a poll on how
many people thought dogs were part of their family and who didn't.
They said 14% thought dogs did not belong in the house and were not
part of the family. I've sent an email asking about the poll and to
see if Terry or I could come on and talk about what we do.
Kat Simon, midday DJ, from Lite98, Richmond, announced the Chain-Off
all last week during on air time. She also put the Chain-Off and DDB
Virginia Wall of Shame flyers I did up on their website.
I posted our Chain-Off everywhere I could think of, Facebook,
Myspace, Craig's list, Yahoo events, Richmond events, etc.
I've been trying to put the word out there for people to take
pictures for the DDB Virginia Wall of Shame. We'll see what happens.
Terry and I manned a booth at Paws in the Park hosted by Animal
Adoption and Rescue Foundation (AARF). This is my third year there.
We really got the word out about DDB.
I think that's about it.
We need to replace our tent thing as it
blew over at the Chain-Off and broke. I also wanted to get a few
signs made and laminated.

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) -- Activists trying to combat animal cruelty spent eight hours chained to dog-houses in Richmond Saturday.
It was all part of an effort to bring awareness to what they call "the pain of animals."
The Dogs Deserve Better campaign claims caging or chaining a dog can cause severe psychological disorders.
"Dogs are pack animals. They're social animals. They want to be in the home with you," said participant Lisa Compton. "To have a dog chained or penned outside 24/7, why have the dog? If you're not going to make it part of your family, why have the dog?"
Just a reminder, Richmond laws prevent dog owners from leaving their pets tethered outside for more than one hour a day.
The ordnance was passed in 2007 to combat animal cruelty.
