Chain
Off 2010 RESULTS
Freedom for Chained Dogs

\

On Saturday July 3, 2010 Members of Threefold Fundraising, Tara Lamberti and myself (April DeVoe) set up in Southaven Park in Brookhaven, NY. Along with them, Erica Popino (Erica’s boyfriend Lou stayed with us for the day) & Mare Horton chained themselves to trees. Abby the Mastiff & Bruno the Boxer joined us as well in our protest against chaining dogs.
The day was hot, and staying there got to be uncomfortable but we lasted. Mare stayed for 8 hours before heading back to her home in Westchester (she had travelled almost 2 hours to come and get chained) Erica got off her chain after 8 ½ hours, but stayed with Tara & I for support. We ended up being chained for 11 hours due to the park closing at dusk.
We made signs showing the cruelty of chaining as well as posters showing the success stories of DDB to show people what Dogs Deserve Better is all about. We handed out homemade dog treats (even having some wheat free ones for our furry friends with allergies). Erica also collected old towels & blankets to give to the local shelter. Friends and family stopped by, and we took pictures with everyone who came to support us.
Over all through online donations & donations we collected from friends & family (and some strangers as well) we were able to raise over $600, which was double the amount we raised last year when just Tara & I chained ourselves.
We feel that this year’s Chain Off was an even bigger success than last year, and we hope that next year it will be even bigger!
Thank you again for all that you do and thank you for allowing small organizations like ours to join in the effort and feel like we are accomplishing things.
Keep up the good work!!!
