Dogs
Deserve Better was chosen recipient of the Silent Auction for the
8th
Annual CSU Pet Sitters Conference, which was held
in Tucson, Arizona, January 25-28th, 2005. Tammy Grimes, executive
director of Dogs Deserve Better, flew out and presented the Dogs
Deserve Better video, after which she held a question and answer
session. There was not a dry eye in the house during the presentation,
where the plight of the chained dogs was brought into focus, and
we discuss how we can help them.
Special
thanks to Terri Randall, one of the conference team, who's idea
it was to choose Dogs Deserve Better this year. Everyone at the
conference was onboard with the choice, and the auction did it's
best ever, garnering over $1800 for Dogs Deserve Better!
Tammy,
having forgotten that Tucson is one of the few cities with a no
chains law, spent some time out looking for the chained dogs, and
guess what, seems the law is working well! She found no chained
dogs, but did see some backyard dogs, sad-looking strays, and even
a sign reminding that dumping of animals is prohibited. Way to go,
Tucson, for knocking out one of the elements of animal abuse!
