Dear Tammy,

I Need a Home - Not a Dog HouseI'm Winnie, I was chained 24/7 outside in the cold with NO SHELTER!

My owners were turned into the ACO and were threatened with a citation or the chance to surrender me to DDB, they chose to relinquish me and now I'm happily awaiting my forever family!

I know there are programs offering to build doghouses for dogs like me, but if you had given me a doghouse, you would have not only been sentencing me to a life on a chain but my six puppies to a cold and lonely winter.

In most areas of the country food, water, shelter and rabies vaccinations are required for a chained/penned dog, but even with these things I'm left defenseless against other dogs, I'm lonely and I am more likely to become aggressive and bite. Don't give me a house when what I need is a home.

Visit my friends at http://dogsdeservebetter.org/sponsor2007.html and find out how you can be an angel to dogs like me this holiday season!

Please Don't Leave Me With an Empty Stocking this Year!

I am Kota - Sponsor Me for the Holidays!Lilly, Shadow, Nakita, Conner, Alice, Rocky, Kota and MORE DBB neglected/abused rescues are still looking for sponsors and gifts for the holidays! These are dogs who have NEVER known LOVE before!

Choose one of our special boys or girls and give a donation or do your own shopping and have a gift box sent directly to them. (Contact dawn@dogsdeservebetter.org for the address) If you choose to give as a gift to someone else, DDB will send out a special gift letter to the recipient with their sponsored dog's picture! Find out how it works.

Your sponsor gift may also provide food, housing and veterinary care for Dogs Deserve Better foster dogs throughout the U.S. in the upcoming year, and help teach others about the plight of the chained dogs who are left to languish in the back yard.

Your spirits could be lifted too when you receive a letter and picture from your sponsored pup letting you know just how much he enjoyed his gifts. Sponsors over $25 will receive a free DDB Calendar!

New Rep's First Rescue!

Spot Freed from His Chain!

Congratulations to Millport, New York DDB Rep Heather Colunio!

Heather recently became a rep and has just unchained her first surrender! Spot is a Dalmatian/Beagle mix who was tethered outside for the entire 10 years of his life.

Heather says he's a little dirty in this picture, living on a chain for 10 years and never being bathed, but a nice warm bath and a soft brushing by caring hands will take care of that.

Thank you Heather! Great work!

Contact Heather at islalagoon@yahoo.com if you are interested in giving Spot the loving home he's always deserved.

Free DDB Student Memberships
December 1st - January 31

DDB Offers Free Student Memberships

Because many students pledge New Year's resolutions to make a difference, we wanted to reach out to those young people who care about animals - who perhaps are upset by the sight of chained dogs in their neighborhood - and who want to finally take a stand. So, DDB is offering the free student only memberships in order to encourage even more young people to become involved in freeing dogs from their chains.

"A large percentage of our membership and volunteer base is young people," explains founder Tammy Grimes "Without the energy and ideas that young people and students bring to our group, we wouldn't be able to rescue nearly the number of chained dogs that we do."

Students of all ages and education levels are welcome to take advantage of the Free Student Membership.

Hurry the free offer ends January 31, 2008. Join now!

Miami Considering Tethering Ban

Hope for Miami Dogs

Changes to the way you tie up your pet could be coming to dog owners in Miami-Dade County, even if your pet is in your own backyard.

Ask almost anyone at your local dog park what they think about tethering an animal and you'll probably get a response like this: "I've seen that and it's disgusting," said dog owner Tony Dealmeida.  Read More

Many Florida communities, as well as counties, communities and states all over the U.S. already have tethering bans and restrictions in place. Okaloosa County, Florida ACO gives her testimony on the effectiveness of their tethering ban and declares that the tethering ban is a "good thing".

Read testimonials from Okaloosa County, FL as well as other communities.

Excused Juror Speaks Out

Support for Our Founder Tammy Grimes

During Tammy Grimes' recent jury selection, one potential juror had no idea what to expect when told she would be asked to sit on a jury in a criminal case " I thought as far as our news in Blair County I would be asked to sit on a jury that dealt with area drug dealers, pedophiles, etc.  I thought am I up for this?"

Read her comments as she learned that this 'criminal case' involved the woman who saved "that poor dog".

A rally held by Grimes' supporters will take place on 12/12/07, 8:00 a.m. at the Blair County Courthouse, 423 Allegheny Street, Hollidaysburg, PA. 16648-2022.

The rally will continue from 12/12/07 through the dates of the trial. Anyone planning to attend should bring their own handmade signs.  For questions about hotel information, etc. contact: dawn@dogsdeservebetter.org
