Dear Tammy,

Does Dad really need another tie this year? Why go with conventional gifts when you can Sponsor a Dog for your Holiday Gift Giving? There are 25 + dogs  this year waiting for you to share some of your holiday cheer.

Like Haddie...look at the difference between her on the chain and  off the chain. Now that's the look of a Dogs Deserve Better dog!

Can you imagine Haddie's face when she receives her first ever gift from her special sponsor? Picture the contrast between the other holidays she's spent cold, wet, lonely suffering on the end of a chain and the one you can help provide her this year!  Like many of our  holiday dogs, Haddie is waiting for someone to choose her to  sponsor and send her a gift package. Could it be you?

Please help us make this the best holiday ever and choose a dog to  sponsor for yourself, as a family, for your friends & coworkers.    It's easy and so much fun! Just Visit the Holiday Dog Sponsor page,  choose one or more dogs to sponsor & hit the donate button under  each dog.

After that you can indicate whom you want the gift  sponsorship to be mailed to by providing the name and address of  the recipient and your name and address as the sender. Then let us do all of the work...DDB will mail out a special gift letter to  the address you provide featuring your chosen sponsored dog! If  you'd like to mail packages directly to foster parents of a certain  dog, please contact Dawn@dogsdeservebetter.org for the foster  parent's address. If you want to know what dogs still need  gifts, just ask Dawn!

The alternative gift of philanthropy is a really hip present this year, whether for you or someone else.  This is by far one of the most enjoyable and interactive programs  we offer at DDB and will be one of the most important gifts you will give this year. Sponsor a Dog for your Holiday Gift Giving!

Meet Magnum!

Meet Magnum, one of the fosters you can sponsor this holiday season! This is his third year in Dogs Deserve Better Sponsor a Dog for the Holiday's program.  Magnum's foster mom tells him he's a special boy, and it would take a special home for him, which is why he's still in foster care with his mom Tamira Ci Thayne. Maggie is asking Santa for a new collar and leash (a very short leash would be good, so he can stay close to mom), a ton of treats, and a new washable bed.

Dogs Deserve Better offers an easy and fun way to give to those less fortunate this holiday season.  Each year incredibly warm-hearted people pick a dog of their choosing to sponsor, donate funds to, and send care packages to a dog in need.  All of the dogs have been rescued from neglect and abuse cases and lived isolated and chained their entire lives before being surrendered to Dogs Deserve Better.  These fosters live all over the country.  It's incredibly touching when a dog receives a gift from a sponsor parent.  Sometimes the sponsors aren't people at all, but other dogs who live happily inside a forever home and want to share with a dog less fortunate.

Families with children have an especially fun time choosing a needy dog's picture, shopping for and sending gift packages. People also donate in the name of someone else for those friends and family members who have everything and DDB sends them a personalized gift letter with a picture of their sponsored holiday dog. Sponsor a dog for your child's classroom or as a gift for a teacher. Best of all, donors get to see pictures of the sponsored dogs with their gifts that they gave them!

Meet all of our holiday fosters and choose your special dog to sponsor!

(A Note for Holiday Sponsors: The buttons for sponsoring Holiday Dogs were not giving the option to leave a note for instructions for gift recipients, but we HAVE FIXED that, so NOW it will be easier for you to give sponsorships as gifts!)gg

Regulated Tethering Law Passed In Moundsville West Virginia

Betty Burkett spearheaded a new law that is now in effect in Moundsville, West Virginia.

"I am so sick and tired of seeing dogs tied outside and the conditions they live in," said Burkett. The new law prohibits dogs from being chained up and left outdoors 24 hours a day. She said it was a tragic sight that gave her the motivation to put an end to what boils down to animal cruelty.

"I watched a boxer die on a chain," said Burkett. And she said especially now, with these chilling conditions, the outdoors is the last place you should leave your animal. Not to mention that segregation forces them to become territorial and unsocial, which can pose serious threats to humans.

"I think since 2003 there have been 237 children either killed or injured severely by chained dogs," said Burkett. She said she hopes others will take advantage of the new law, in turn, helping the helpless.

"Call the police and say, 'Hey this dog near me doesn't have a dog box, it's been out 24/7 and now that's against the law," said Burkett.

We called it "A Dogs Deserve Better Holiday Celebration of Dogs Living As Part of the Family".

DDB- Illinois celebrated those dogs living inside the home with their family by holding a pet parade and costume contest. We consider it positive reinforcement.  Dogs and their people paraded in costume around the community's Festival of Trees Celebration and took home prizes for various categories. The grand prizewinner was Zaccheaus, a little dog with a big name dressed as "The King of Our Castle".  The best gift of all came from one of last year's contestants when she confessed that she kept her small dogs inside, but her bigger dog chained outside. After learning about Dogs Deserve Better last year, all her dogs are happily living inside with their family this year!  Of course the favorite picture was in the county newspaper.  Contact your City Tourism Coordinator or Chamber of Commerce to see if you can hold a similar event in your area!

Maria Dane's "CHAINED TO YOU" Tops Soundclick Charts

As Maria Daine's song, "Chained to You", a tribute to  a chained dog named Shepp,  topped the charts at soundclick,  she was off  to Spain for SOS Galgos.

Her song "Chained to You" took first place in the genre 'Blues',  with 30,277 hits, and first place in a sub-genre  'Blues General', with  13,485 hits.

After her return,  DDB asked Daines about her love for animals, her inspiration for the song "Chained to You" and her relationship with  Dogs Deserve Better.

A BIG THANK YOU FROM THE DDB AUCTION!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who sent in items, participated in bidding and congratulations to the winners of the DDB Ebay auction!  Our own little elves at DDB Headquarters are busy sorting through and mailing out to the winners.  If this picture gives any idea to what is going on at DDB headquarters right now, it gives a whole new meaning to "working dogs".  We had over 70 items for auction this year, which was phenomenal!

Like many charitable groups, Dogs Deserve Better was hit hard by our struggling economy. As a grassroots organization without a financial pillow to fall back on we appreciate each and every effort you make to keep us going.  And we will keep going, especially now that winter is here, people are snuggled up warm inside their homes while their dogs sit isolated and freezing outside in the yard.  As the first snowflakes begin to fall and stick to the ground, our DDB team can look around our homes and see our rescued foster dogs nestled all snug in their beds and know that because of your giving and through our devotion, hands-on work and education the time will come when dogs will look back and see NO MORE CHAINS. Thank you for helping us in our journey. Donate.

Testimonial from Pauline Larsen, Columnist, Humane Education, DDB Rep: "I just received Puddles On The Floor, and have read it three times. I am convinced that we need to get copies of this book in as many elementary school libraries as possible. What an awesome educational tool this is!! I will be sending a donation to get multiple copies to distribute to schools, and hope my action will encourage others to do the same. Education is the key to improving the plight of needy dogs, and this book can change attitudes.I AM IMPRESSED, and I encourage YOU to order multiple copies to distribute in your area!"

Our movement is growing, expanding, making HUGE strides, thanks to your help. Please stick with us, we really CAN change the world for chained and penned dogs.

Sincerely,
