DDB News 6/1/09: A Dog a Day This Summer Challenge!
|
Dear Tammy,
The Dog Days of Summer will quickly be upon us...and dogs will languish, suffer, even die in the heat.
DDB
has a unique challenge this summer: Let's Rescue a Chained or Penned
Dog a Day! That's 90 Chained or Penned Dogs in need of foster and vet
care, not to mention new, inside, loving homes and families. Can we do it?
I, Tamira Ci Thayne, personally commit to fostering two female formerly
chained or penned dogs who are good with other dogs AND cats.
I'm located in Pennsylvania. If you can get a female off chains who can
get along in my home and transport the dog close to me, drop me an
e-mail with some before pics of the dog on the chain. I'll take in the
first two who come my way. I commit to two of the 90. That leaves 88 in need. Who else can commit? Fill out a foster form and get started. Can't commit to fostering? Vetting 90 Dogs will cost a heck of a lot of money...can you sponsor me as I take a stand for chained dogs during Chain Off or any of our other dynamic Chain Off volunteers to raise funds to vet these dogs and for our educational and fence-building campaigns? Want to donate through our website
instead? However you can help, let's commit to making this challenge a
reality. We'll keep you posted on our progress throughout the summer.
If you rescue a formerly chained or penned dog, drop us an e-mail at info@dogsdeservebetter.org so we can count your rescue in our summer totals!

Welcome Miranda Riane, Mothers Against Dog Chaining Spokesperson!
|
Dogs Deserve Better and Mothers Against Dog Chaining would like to welcome mom Miranda Riane as spokesperson for our cause.
Miranda's
son Timmy Hughes was attacked and seriously injured by the neighbor's
chained dog in November 2007, yet Miranda maintains not only a loving
concern for the welfare of her son, but a concern for the dog who was
so unsocialized with humans that he was driven to attack.
Drop Miranda a line of encouragement and thanks for her hard work for the children and dogs at mirandariane@yahoo.com.

Chain Off 2009 NEEDS YOU! Pull up a doghouse in your own backyard and make a difference for chained dogs!
|
You
don't need to get all Fancy-Schmancy about it...you don't need a big
elaborate plan...you just need a doghouse, a chain, and YOU!
You can do that, right?
Even
in Greenville, SC, we're getting jiggy with it this year...going back
to our grassroots...and holding pretty much an old-fashioned chained
dog-people sit-in at a very main street park, Piazza Bergamo, in Downtown Greenville, July 11-12, 2009.
Join us there, or in your own backyard, and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
We currently have 33 people in 24 states plus Canada and Romania...is your state represented? If not, will you step up?
Our goal is 100 people...still 67 shy, come on folks, you can do it!
Speaking of which, and back to our all-in-good-fun Chain Off Fundraising Contest---which so far isn't much of a contest---that Rhonda Sims is at it again. I received a text message to my cell phone which simply stated "3365."
Now,
I played dumb, and told her I didn't know what she was talking about.
Then she spelled it out for me..."Dollars". At which point I was forced
to tell her "No comprende Ingles", which might mean I don't understand
English in some language...then she pretended she was going to refund
all her donations! To which I said, "Good, now you're talking my
language, send those sweet donors my way!"
A
big thanks to all who are fundraising and all who have donated! So far
we have 45 people raising money and 151 people have donated to help
chained dogs.
In second place we have another transport coordinator, Cheryl Kaminski, who is sneaking up with a nice total of her own in memory of Shepp, who starved at the end of his chain in Corpus Christi, Texas.
I'm
hanging in there in third place, thanks to all of you who came along to
rescue me after my last plea---but I'm still less than 1/4 of the way
to my fundraising goal of $4000! Can you sponsor me too?
Remember,
this is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and our biggest awareness
campaign too, so reach deep, and if you can only sponsor your favorite
chainee for $5, then please do so! It all adds up, and gives that person courage to keep on making a difference for the chained dogs in their areas.
And last but not least, let me send out a personal plea for Dawn Ashby, the DDB Public Liaison Director in Illinois,
who's on leave this week...if she were doing the newsletter, she'd be
the one begging for donations to save her from her $85.00 total, so
it's only fair that I mention she needs your help now too! If
you're a Dawn-fan, send her some love in the form of a Chain Off
donation today, so I don't take too much flack for not getting her any
help!
And remember, you
don't even need to be a Chain Off chainee in order to create your own
fundraising page and raise funds for Chain Off! It's
fun, you get to personalize it and tell everyone why you support this
cause and why you want to raise money for the chained dogs. You'll feel proud when you too are raising funds that bring freedom to chained dogs across our nation and world!
