A Vote for Chain-ge!

Dogs Deserve Better E-News 11/05/08 |
|
Dear Tammy,
After Election Day we are all looking forward to change; changes
in the White House and hoping for change in the economy. Many of us voted for
candidates we felt would be best for the animals and at DDB we are counting
on YOU for a "Chain-ge We Can Count On". (The individual sending the most money gets a free Puddles Pak!)
I've been taking my spare change and tossing it in a jar, I
counted it out and I've got $11.52. While much of the world is
celebrating change, I'll be stopping by my bank or grocery and changing
my change into dollar bills, sticking it in an envelope and sending it
to Dogs Deserve Better at P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA, 16684 with
a note saying "This is for the "Chain-ge We Can Count On Campaign".
Won't you do the same?
If
everyone on our e-mail list saved only $5.00 in
change we'd have over $25,000 dollars that would go a long way toward
vetting the dogs, building the fences, and printing educational
materials. Now grab up your penny jars, clean out your purse, or dig in
the couch cushions and change your change into dollars to drop in the
mail today or tomorrow. Remember, the dogs are counting on YOU so get
that change turned into
Chain-ge the dogs can count on!
You used your
voice when you voted and with your contribution to a "Chain-ge We Can
Count On" you will lend your voice to save chained & penned dogs
without a voice of their own. When we stand together we can turn a
little change into BIG changes for chained dogs!

DDB Awards Ceremony
Pictured from left to right, Lisa Conklin--Adams County SPCA
Development Director, Bob Goodman--DDB Area Rep and SPCA board member,
and Chris Ameduri--DDB Area Rep and SPCA Vice Chair of the Board. Dogs
Deserve Better was proud to honor the Adams County SPCA at their gala
Saturday night in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with a DDB Gratitude Award
presented by founder Tamira Thayne.
The Adams County SPCA
has been one of the premier Pennsylvania humane organizations in
confronting the chaining issue in their community, and their employees
and humane agents press hard for better conditions for chained dogs.
Much
of the credit for this partnership goes to long-time DDB Area Rep Chris
Ameduri, who has worked side by side with humane officers and her
fellow SPCA board members to make a difference for the county's chained
dogs.
Development Director Lisa Conklin has been very supportive and outspoken, and has worked hard to bring HB1065 into fruition.
Jericho, a chained dog noted in a cruelty case in the county, was in attendance as a special guest of the gala.

Featured Adoptable - Amy
Marion, Indiana
- Look at Amy! She's so excited to have her DDB rescuer come to save
her! Amy is a beautiful 6-year-old Shepherd/Beagle mix who was
very much loved by her elderly dad. When he passed away, the son
chained Amy up in the yard and pretty much ignored her. The neighbors
who were heart sick that such a sweet little dog was being treated this
way, called Marie Belanger--Indiana DDB Rep for help. When asked about
Amy, her guardian replied "I hate that dog." and when asked about
finding a home for her, he said "Yeah, in the river." After a week or
so working with Animal Control, Marie went and spoke to him and he
finally said "Take her!". She
immediately got Amy out of there and now Amy is VERY happy and in need
of a loving permanent home. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccines,
house trained and parasite free. This petite little girl only
weights in at 27 lbs.

Liberty's Amazing Long Road To Freedom
The
untimely death of her guardian left Liberty in the hands of the abusive
boyfriend in Texas. She was tied outside and rarely fed and watered,
survived Hurricane Gustav and was finally delivered into the loving
hands of her guardian's sister across the miles in Arizona. Read Liberty's Amazing Long Road To Freedom.

Success Story: Buddy The Boxer
Columbia,
Missouri - At only one-and-a-half years old, Buddy the Boxer had already had a rough start at life, chained and
kicked by his caretakers. Poor Buddy. The chain had rubbed all the hair off his
neck! Buddy was so thin and hungry when
Melody Whitworth--DDB Rep of Columbia, Missouri--rescued him. Still, after what
this boy had been through, he is fun loving, trusting and very obedient. Better yet, he is now part of a loving family
living inside with his new guardians! Buddy was
adopted and will remain in Columbia, Missouri with a lovely young couple
who will be married this month! Congratulations to Eric
& Tanzie, and thank you from all us in rescue for giving this sweet
boy his forever inside home!

DDB & Best Friends

(Deb Carr Makes A Best Friend At Best Friends)
Tamira Ci Thayne, Founder & President of Dogs Deserve Better
and Deb Carr, DDB Treasurer recently traveled to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in
anticipation of inspiration since
DDB was in the area for the No More Homeless Pets Conference. What they found was a doozie of a Dozer! Yep, Deb is so in love with this sweet Pittie
named Dozer, she's determined to find him a home! Read more about Tami and Deb's
trip to Best Friends!
Dogs Deserve Better still has
high hopes to build our own shelter to rehabilitate chained dogs. For six
years, DDB Reps all over the country have been rescuing, vetting, training and
rehoming backyard dogs in our own homes and we realize our calling is so
tremendous that we must expand in order to help all who need us. We would like to build a center where you can
meet and greet the dogs and have a hand in their therapy.
We are seeking bequest donations, as well as donations of at
least 10 acres of land, hopefully somewhere within an hour or two of a major
airport.
Interested in helping a project of this magnitude get
off the ground, even bare your name? Please call Tamira Thayne, DDB founder, at
814.941.7447 if you can help us with a bequest or donation, or visit http://dogsdeservebetter.org/ddbcenter.html
to find out more.

Testimonial
from Pauline Larsen, Columnist, Humane Education, DDB Rep: "I
just received Puddles On The Floor,
and have read it three times. I am convinced that we
need to get copies of this book in as many elementary school
libraries as possible. What an awesome educational tool
this is!! I will be sending a donation
to get multiple copies to distribute to schools, and hope my
action will encourage others to do the same. Education is the key to improving the plight
of needy dogs, and this book can change attitudes.I AM IMPRESSED,
and I encourage YOU to order multiple copies to distribute in
your area!"
