| A World Without Chains |
Dogs Deserve Better E-News 04/23/08 |
|
Dear Tammy,
These 1051 dogs were just specks on a pinhead of all the chained
and penned dogs begging for love. What does this mean to us? It means
that the need is real and together with Dogs Deserve Better we have a
chance to change the lives of the 24/7-backyard dog across the nation
and around the world.
DDB is working towards a rehabilitation facility for
chained/penned dogs where they can be trained and adopted into homes
and families; won't you please help us be a part of the solution?
Imagine a world where every dog lives as part of the family. Help us
make our dream a reality.
Speaking of making dreams a reality - on April 10, 2008, the City of Miami passed its proposed Tethering ordinance. Let's hope that Miami-Dade follows this example.

DDB's Roadtrip Continues to Delaware's Week for the Animals
Tammy came back from the Dognamic Duo 12 day tour, hit the road again the next morning heading for the Delaware Week for the Animals, where she attended a kickoff party that night, and ran the DDB booth the next day.
Special thanks to Patricia Haddock for putting together the Week
for the Animals and for making sure DDB participated. Patricia
organized a statewide student competition in writings and drawings on
Daisy Bix's Buddy Unchained book.
Tammy posed with all the winners as they stood with their recognition awards and Buddy books.
DDB also debuted our new 'fancy' booth banner, which states "Imagine - a World Where Every Dog Lives as Part of the Family." The star of the banner photo is Tammy's daughter Brynnan, pictured with former foster dog Nala.
Thank you to Charlotte Neuberger, who already had the kids at the event making Valentines for next year.

Success Stories: 10 Years of Suffering Ends for Two Chow Chows
DDB Indiana Representative, Marie Belanger received
a call from Tammi Ruppert in Independence, Kentucky requesting
help for two 10-year-old Chow Chow brothers that
had lived their entire lives on chains. Marie managed to find foster
homes for both of them in separate homes in Indianapolis,
Indiana. With help from Tammi, the rescue began. First
Marie had a portable groomer come out and they took Dillis off of his
chain; he was very grateful! She groomed Dillis (the black pup)
first. He went on from there to the clinic for vaccinations
and a vet check. In addition to the basic medical needs, the
vet discovered a tumor on Dillis which needed emergency surgery at a
cost of $400.00 paid for by DDB.
The
groomer took care of the cream brother ( Roan ) and then he went for
vaccines and was boarded at the clinic until he could be moved to
Indianapolis as well. We could not transport them together because the
owner said they did not get along at all. Today they are both very happy. Dillis has a St. Bernard and a Bloodhound to play with and he's a great big love bug!
Roan has a Blue Heeler and a Yorkie Pooh to play with. He goes hiking on the weekends.
Thank you Marie and Tammi for going the extra mile for these deserving boys!
Please help us to continue helping dogs like Roan and Dillis, by contributing our Vet Fund today!

Prelude to Chain-Off Save The Date!
It's time to pick your favorite collar, chain and doghouse and start planning for DDB Chain-Off 2008!
This year we are reaching out to "Unchain our World"!
Everyone is on the edge of their seats awaiting the announcement
of this year's major chain-off location, but don't let travel plans
hold you up. Once again you can chain up anywhere you like. Reserve a park, a business, or camp out in your own yard anytime from June 27th until July 7th.
This year you will get your own web page to raise donations for chained/ penned dogs.
The main Chain-Off Event will take place on June 28th and here's a hint: "You may want to wear a windbreaker to cover those big shoulders". Stay tuned, more to come. |
From the Mailbag
Just
wanted to let you know that Lucy and Snickers have made a full recovery
from spaying and are happier than ever. They even seem more obedient.
We
no longer chain them when they are outside and they have full run of
the yard and much to the cat's chagrin, the house as well.
Thank
you again for everything you have done for us. I appreciate it and Lucy
and Snickers send their love to you as well!
May the future bring you great luck.

Featured Adoptable
Buddy Boy

Buddy is a 2-3 year old red Australian Cattle Dog
mix. This poor boy was rescued from a "home" where he was chained
outside with electrical extension cords and was using the bottom
half of a dresser as his shelter.
Buddy is just a large puppy full of love to give. He was easy to
house train, and just learned how to "sit" within the past week. Read more about Buddy.

| Order a Dogs Deserve Better Yard or Highway Sign
We've come up with these small yard signs - mini-billboards, as another tool to help you to help chained dogs.
They hold up for months outside, and will be seen by those driving by for a long, long time before wearing out.
The signs are blue and white, 12"x17" in size, and printed on
both sides; they will be mailed to you with the wire post that you see
in the illustration. These can then be posted right in your yard or a
highly visible place in your town or community
