New Design: 3 Chained Dogs
|
|
|
|
|
Dear Tammy,
From Tammy: I cried when I saw the PSA production
photos! They were SO professional, and I couldn't
help but think, all those people are there for US!
For Dogs Deserve Better and the chained dogs. Wow,
what a blessing.
Plus, in this edition, help us get ready for our
fall e-bay auction; do you have a rescued chained
dog for our calendar?; see us at the Taking Action
for Animals Conference; some wonderful successes;
and don't forget about us on Goodsearch!

The PSA is Almost Ready to Distribute

The Public Service Announcement has been filmed in
Seattle, with Adrian Zmed flying in to star
alongside Mojo, the formerly chained Seattle
retriever boy. Thanks so much to Nikki Sherritt
and the fabulous crew she assembled with April
Wren! Post-production is almost finished,
and we need to know if A. Stations local to you will
air the PSA, and B. What format they will need. We
are developing a letter to add in pdf format to the
site to assist you with approaching them. Stay tuned for
more info!
We are incredibly excited, because as a small
nonprofit we would never have been able to afford
this. We still need almost $2400 to pay the costs
Nikki and April couldn't get donated (which were
HUGE, as they got most everyone's time and equipment
donated), please consider even a small donation
towards this amount today. The invoices are coming in.

DDB at Major Conferences

Booths at Animal Rights 2006 and Taking Action for Animals
We're happy to report that DDB Reps and
Volunteers came out in full force at the Animal
Rights 2006 Conference in D.C. August 10-13. We
presented raw footage of the Chain Off Contest, as
well as our DVD I Am Unseen to great reviews!
We will be exhibiting at the Taking Action for
Animals Conference next weekend in D.C. in order to
spread the word about chaining to animal advocates
from all over the country. If you are there, please
come by the booth to introduce yourself, and make
sure to tell
them DDB needs to present there too next year!

We LOVE the Successes
|
|
Keep 'Em Comin'!...
**Important note from Tammy: Please note that almost
ALL the successes we report are from people who took
action on their own, using the materials we've
provided and with our support, sometimes financial
but most often with just our emotional backing. This
is the way we can REALLY make a difference in this
country!

After living 4 years in a rabbit hutch, eating only
bread and bones, Skeeter is free. She was in bad
shape - covered in fleas and ticks, malnourished,
dehydrated, intestinal parasites, ear mites, skin
infections, and heart-worm positive. I'm fostering
her and we have taken care of everything except the
heart-worms. She starts her treatments in 2 weeks.
The vet wanted her to get stronger before she
started the treatments. She is VERY sweet. This
pic was taken the 1st day I got her. —Shari

Laws recently passed in Simpsonville, South
Carolina; laws are being considered in Charleston
City, West Virginia; Irvona, Pennsylvania; and
Durham County, North Carolina. California is still
fighting for it's law...no new news on a vote yet,
if you are in California, please go to the site and
click on the link at the very top of the home page
to take action. ****
I wanted to send you a note on how Katrina is doing
these days. Its been a long hard road to get her
thru the mange, but we are almost there. She is due
to be spayed this upcoming Tues. She now spends most
of her days and all of her nights inside the house
with her mom. I had a friend donate a dog bed for
Katrina to sleep on in the house. When I go to see
her she jumps up on me and just gives me kisses. I
wanted to thank you for your support to help
Katrina, without your help I would not have been
able to get Katrina the medical attention she so
much needed. Thanks and continue the great work you
and your group does.
Bless you—Kim Smith ****
The day I left, the caretaker of the dog called me,
(first time he had done so) and chewed me up one
side and down the other for reporting him. I won't
go into all he said but within the week, his family
and Chloe had moved to Michigan to a 25 acre farm. I
can only hope that Chloe now at least has
room to run. I then had a long talk with our
association president and he will discuss with the
owner of the house (it was rented) the importance
that any renter in the future understand that our
by-laws do not permit chaining. Thank you so much.
Your organization is an essential one.—Elizabeth O'Meara

Yesterday while I was driving home I passed my
neighbor from a couple blocks away who owns
"Spencer". He is a little beagle mix who she had
tied up in ALL weather for the first 3 years she had
him and I sent her literature and gave him food
water blankets toys every day on my walks. FINALLY
since nothing else was working, I decided to become
her new best friend so in case she ever wanted to
get rid of him she would ask ME first, and it
worked! She kept telling me how much she loved him
but didnt really act like she did. Well next thing I
know she got a good job, fixed the a/c, brought the
dog in and now I see her actually WALKING him just
like I do my 2 dogs and he is sooooo happy!
Yesterday he was grass-rolling on his back. My
husband says I still look in their backyard every
time we drive by because I just HAVE to be sure he
is not out there—it is too good to be true. I can
FINALLY enjoy a good thunderstorm without thinking
how scared he could be out in it. This has been his
best summer ever and I am hopeful this winter will
be good too. He was so cold last year. So
persistance pays off...sometimes it just take 3
years.—Debbie Eades

People laughed at me when I got involved in DDB
because they thought there wasn't much I could do
when my income barely met what I need to live off
of, being a girl living on my own in KC. But the
amount of money that I've spent
transporting, rescuing, fostering and running booths
has been more therapeutic than any other way that
money would've been spent. And I've actually proven
to several people, that what I do is SO not about
the money, but about the dogs. Thankfully, it has
inspired several friends and coworkers to be more
aware of what is going on within our community and
they've thanked me for using what little free time I
have to improve the lives of our city's dogs. But
it never could've
come to fruition without all of you! So thanks for
being my
inspiration and my backbone :o) so that I can truly
stand up for what I believe in! —Jennifer Reiman, KC Rep

died after living his entire life on a chain in
Pennsylvania

THINK AGAIN
Ebb didn't deserve to live and die at the end of a

living chained or penned today. Our newest poster
