We Need MORE Valentines and Coupons!

DDB E-News 1/21/2010

Everyone!--We Still Need You to Make Valentines and Send in Coupons!

This year, our goal is to send out over 15,000 Valentines so keep those Valentines coming! We are striving to raise awareness for chained and penned dogs in a positive way...by delivering Valentines, a brochure and a treat coupon to dogs living outside all over the U.S. and into other countries where we have representation, such as Canada and England. We need your help to make Valentines, send in free/reduced cost coupons for dog food/treats, and by sending in addresses for chained dogs that could use our help. For more information, go to our website.

Black Dog Rescued!

People around the world expressed concern for "Black Dog" who appeared in the You Tube Video showing him on a freezing cold day in Pennsylvania with ice on his legs and rear. Well thanks to animal advocate, Cynthia Sweet, and DDB's Tamira Thayne he has been rescued and is living in the Boston area.

Donations For Reward Being Sought By Local Rescue To Assist Virginia Sheriff's Department In Search For Animal Abuser

The New River Valley (Virginia) Chapter of the PA based rescue organization, Dogs Deserve Better, is seeking donations so that the Giles County Virginia Sheriff's Office may offer a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who tied up a dog and threw him into a local dumpster. According to animal control, the four-month-old puppy was found three days after Christmas.

We're told someone tied his legs together, stuffed him in a trash bag and left him in a dumpster to freeze to death.

Doe Creek Kennels in Pembroke is now taking care of the puppy.

The owner, Allison Hollopter, says aside from having worms, and looking like he'd never been to the vet,he was in good condition. "He was scared more than anything,"said Hollopter. He was scared and he was hungry."

Dogs Deserve Better is donating $300 to the reward money. You can find the donation site at

Letter from Sampson's adopter, David, an elderly gentleman who has been saved from his lonely existence by Sampson coming into his life. Sampson's rescue story can be found in Unchain My Heart, at http://www.unchainmyheart.info

January 5, 2010

Dear Dogs Deserve Better,

Just want to show you how comfortable Sampson is. He is brushed and well-cared for. He is a pure joy, he wants to give so much love, and he gets it in return. Everyone fusses over him and he loves it. He has brought so much joy into my life. He and I live alone so we share our house together. I think he is as happy as I am. I still miss my beloved Tara after six months. I think Sampson knows that and he tries harder, not to replace Tara but to know he cares and will give his love. I do not have a computer, but I would like to have your newsletter mailed to me of your good work.

You all should feel proud that you placed Sampson in a good home and have given me such pleasure in his company. I thank you again for Sampson, he is special.

David

January 19, 2010

I had mailed several brochures to houses with a chained dog. I was upset day after day when I still saw the dogs outside. Finally when it got really cold one day, I just stopped at one of the houses to talk to them about their dog. Silly me, I hadn't checked the back yard that day. Guess who was helping his guardian answer the door? Yep, that very same dog. They said they gave him a bath and brought him in. I think my jaw dropped open.

I know it doesn't come this easy most of the time, but it doesn't hurt to mail them if you can get the address or stick them on the mailbox flags (not inside the mailbox because that's illegal of course).

The Humanitourism company Inside/Out travels with groups to areas around the world to help both people and animals. This May, they will be traveling to Greece to help local animal advocates and want to work with the local population to stop the practice of tethering dogs. In October, they will travel to India to help an animal shelter there. If you are interested in learning more about these or other opportunities, visit their website
