Does Your Heart Bleed?
|
Dogs Deserve Better E-News 07/29/08 |
|
Dear Tammy,
Ever
been told you were a 'bleeding heart'? Was it meant to be
condescending? What is the alternative of a bleeding heart?
When a heart is kept on ice it doesn't bleed, but the heart of
one dedicated to the alleviation of suffering is a beating heart filled
with life, love and a thriving passion to make a
difference.
Oprah
Winfrey said, "Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from
focusing on what excites you." She also said, "Where there is no
struggle, there is no strength." The heart that bleeds is a
strong heart full of passion, energy and excitement. The heart of
a warrior bleeds for those we fight for, for those we protect.
Meet the hearts of DDB warriors, read their struggles, feel the passion, energy, excitement that beats inside their hearts. Read all about Chain-Off.

Sexiest Dog Contest
Look
at this sexy hunk of a dog! Maya was a DDB rescue; she loves
boating, swimming, cuddling and visiting her mom Lori at work, she
graduated magna cum lade from obedience school and is the apple of her
mamma's eye. Read Sheba/Maya's story.
But Maya's life wasn't always so grand. Like so many dogs no one ever knew Maya's potential because she was chained outside to a doghouse. Of course that was all before DDB changed her life.
Do you have a sexy chained/ penned rescued dog you'd like to show off? Email: dawn@dogsdeservebetter.org,
tell me in a few words what makes your dog your dreamboat and send a
picture of your dog, dressed up or "all natural" and a before picture
if you have one.
DDB
may feature your dog in our "Sexiest Dog Contest" where you and your
friends can vote and raise money for rescue. If you win your sexy
baby will be the next DDB featured poster dog, available on t-shirts and items at our DDB store!
Contest rules:
Must be a previously chained/penned dog rescued, fostered or adopted by
you. You must have your entries in by August 8th, 2008. Once the
candidates are chosen we will commence the voting. Make your dog
the star he/she was destined to be!

Success Story
Colby Rescued After 5 Years on a Chain
Massachusetts: New
Rhode Island DDB Rep, Sue Tassoni, received an email regarding a
chained dog in Massachussets that desperately needed help. This was
Sue's first case for DDB and we are all impressed at how quickly she
responded to Colby's plea for help. Sue immediately contacted Colby's
"caretaker," conviced him to release the dog to Dogs Deserve Better and
picked Colby up to start his new life.
Poor Colby had spent his five plus years of life chained in the
backyard. Despite his hardships, he has maintained a loving and
outgoing personality. He is is doing very well in his foster home and
has FOUR prospective adopters interested in providing Colby with the
life that he deserves.
Unfortunately, Colby has tested positive
for heartworm, which is one of the risks associated with keeping a dogs
outside 24/7. He is currently undergoing treatment and is doing well!

| Indea - Abused, Caged and Bred, Begs for Your Help

Indea has had a rough life, to say the least.
She
was born in the home of a woman who bred Lhasa Apsos. As a pup, she was
adopted out to a woman whose relationship became abusive. Indea spent
only a year and a half in this woman's company. After constantly moving
around with her caretaker who was trying to escape from her
husband, he finally found them both. He raped and beat Indea's
caretaker beyond recognition, so badly she had to have reconstructive
surgery.
His attack did not stop there; he decided to also take
his rage out on little Indea. He sexually assaulted Indea as well and
kicked her in the face. This poor girl was so traumatized; she hid
herself under a couch that took two adults to lift to rescue her.
After her initial rescue - poor Indea's story continues on a downward spiral. Read more
Today,
Indea is living in a loving home, where she is treated as the princess
she should be - but she has run into another road block, and she needs
your help.

Featured DDB Supporter Artist Nancy Schutt

"Dogs and art go together. To me it's the most obvious thing in
the world. I love both and I like having both in my environment, so
painting a dog is a natural fusion." Says Nancy Schutt, artist, dog
lover and DDB supporter.
"When I'm not painting, dogs just rule."

Featured Adoptable
Save Spot!

Indiana - Hi, I'm Spot. I am a 3 year old
Aussie mix, I'm a very good dog with a lot of love. I need a home where
I can get some exercise and training. The Aussie in me makes me a very
smart dog. I will fit in nicely with a family who has a large
fenced yard for me to run and play and learn to play Frisbee and catch.
I really like to chase cats so a home with no cats would be best for
me. Due to the fact that Dogs Deserve Better have so many Dogs needing homes at this time, I will have to stay chained to this barn until the right family comes for me. Can you please help? Contact: Marie, to foster or adopt me. | |
