Sponsor a Dog For the Holidays!
"For me?"
Last year, Miracle, a little Pit Bull/Shar Pei mix saved by Dogs
Deserve Better, was so amazed at all the great gifts from sponsors that
he couldn't believe his eyes! Romeo, the Saint Bernard looked on
in jealous disbelief. Don't worry Romeo has his own toys.
If
you are fostering a formerly chained or penned dog and would like to be
entered into the program, please e-mail a picture, your dog's story,
and your contact information to Dawn@dogsdeservebetter.org
ASAP. We are taking applicants for the program ONLY through November
21. Our Holiday Dogs will be up and ready for you to meet by November
25th!
Each year our foster parents enter their dogs in the
program and our generous supporters sponsor gifts for them for the
holidays. Some mail packages to the dogs, and some give donations as
gifts for loved ones, and some give donations as gifts for themselves.
See some photos from Last Year! Check out last year's happy holiday dog pictures!

J-Lo and Penny - Two Successes in One!
J-Lo
was an APBT chained to a junkyard car for 7 years. Georgia DDB Rep Pam
Cheatham was talking with Melissa Roberts at Fulton County Shelter
about her experiences with chained dogs. Melissa gave a tour of
all the formerly chained dogs in the Fulton County shelter, then she
begged Pam to help her find rescue for J-Lo and Penny,
a pair of American Pit Bull Terriers with a past (chained, neglected,
etc.), a present (they had bonded in their run for 4 months) and no
future (space was running out and they were soon to be "on the list"
for killing). Pam said she'd try to find help for
them. With the urging of her Dogs Deserve Better friends Pam took
the plunge and picked them up herself, thinking that she'd use whatever
resources she had to figure out how to save these two.
US Canine and the Georgia Dog Whisperer took Penny and J-LO into training and both made lots of new friends.
Now both have been adopted! Penny lives in Decatur, Georgia with her new family and gets to go outside and run and play in the woods. .
J-Lo takes care of her two boys all day, but Pam ever the comedienne, tells us J-Lo may be backsliding into her inner junkyard dog. For at night J-Lo dons a pair of dark shades, puts on her motorcycle sweatshirt & is ready for the Georgia nightlife. Oh J-Lo, be careful! You don't want to give Pit Bulls a bad reputation! Featured Adoptable - Banshee DDB Headquarters, Tipton, PA
This
handsome boy Banshee is a purebred Black Labrador Retriever, if those
sorts of things mean anything to you. He does have his papers from the
breeder. He spent the first six years of his life on a chain, but his
caretaker wanted a better life for him, and felt he was too much for
them to handle, so they released him to us at DDB rescue. He has been
neutered and had a small tumor removed from his right carpal 'wrist'
area.
He is house-trained, is good with cats and is a VERY
smart dog! He's eager to please, but a bit on the pushy side because he
was never taught how to listen to his human pack leaders. Banshee would
really like a job of his own. He just wants to understand what you want
from him. He could really use some basic obedience classes. He
absolutely LOVES tennis balls, and to play fetch, although he's still
working on giving the ball back to you. He also LOVES to swim! Taking
him to the creek and watching him swim and fetch ball after ball out of
the water is a true joy to behold. He's all lab, for sure. He'll do
most anything for a treat.
He is six years old, great with
other dogs and ok with cats. He has a scar on his neck from an embedded
collar, but it's not readily apparent to the eye, it's underneath his
fur. He really wants love and companionship! If you have a little
patience and time to give him, you will have an absolutely wonderful
friend in Banshee. Contact: 814.941.7447, info@dogsdeservebetter.org See more dogs looking for forever homes.

Spread The Warmth With A Dog This Winter
"Bear"
Before
After
Be
a better "Angel for Dogs" this winter by helping us bring backyard dogs
into the home and family. Dogs Deserve Better isn't asking you to
build a better mousetrap and we won't ask you to build a better
doghouse. What we ask is for you to help us bring backyard dogs into
the home and family. There are many caretakers who won't
bring their dog into the home and they won't relinquish them right away
either, but with your help we promise we won't give up and we will be
there when the time comes that they will relinquish their dogs.
The fact is there are many people who are willing
to relinquish their dogs and for a hardworking grassroots
organization like ours it's sometimes impossible for us to take them
all in, vet them, or build fencing on our small budget. While
some larger organizations may be asking you to give a better doghouse,
at DDB we are asking you to use that same money to help us break more
dogs off chains and bring them inside a loving family through our
rescuing, fostering, vetting, fencing and education projects. Won't you help us bring warmth to a cold dog this winter by donating to bring him into the home and family? Please donate to our cause, foster/adopt a previously chained or penned backyard dog into your home or volunteer today! |

Testimonial
from Pauline Larsen, Columnist, Humane Education, DDB Rep: "I
just received Puddles On The Floor,
and have read it three times. I am convinced that we
need to get copies of this book in as many elementary school
libraries as possible. What an awesome educational tool
this is!! I will be sending a donation
to get multiple copies to distribute to schools, and hope my
action will encourage others to do the same. Education is the key to improving the plight
of needy dogs, and this book can change attitudes.I AM IMPRESSED,
and I encourage YOU to order multiple copies to distribute in
your area!"

Our movement is growing, expanding, making HUGE strides, thanks to your help. Please stick with us, we really CAN change the world for chained and penned dogs.
Sincerely,
