Thayne's Been on her Chain for 39 Days!
There's good news and bad news from Thayne's mission to win a law for Pennsylvania chained dogs. Well,
ok, there's mostly bad news, but it appears that Senator Brubaker is
unwilling to even discuss this bill in his committee this year, despite
DDB supporters showing up at his town hall meeting, and Thayne's patient vigil at the Capitol. However, not everyone there is blind to the effort.
Someone
who works at the Capitol sent her this message two days ago: "Don't
lose hope and stay strong. I work at the capitol and walk by you every
day. I can say this: if we had any "representatives" in this state who
devoted themselves to Pennsylvania's problems as much as you are doing
for canine freedom, this state would not be in the mess it is in today.
For as long as I have worked at the capitol - I have seen many protests,
many public speakings, etc; but they never get their point across
because they are only there for a matter of a few hours. You, on the
other hand, are getting A LOT of attention all over...not just
Harrisburg. Because of your dedication to what you believe, you are
making a lot of people think about the issue a little deeper. I just
wanted to let you know, although the Reps who work at Harrisburg can be
blind in their ways, not all Pennsylvanians are."

Tami has created two videos of her chaining, on Day Nine, and on Day 35. Don't Miss Them!

More Florida Tethering Laws!
Great
news! Today we were able to get a unanimous vote of " YES" from
Sarasota Commissioners to adopt the Miami anti tethering language for
their county. They originally added a new clause stating a 15 minute
unattended tethering but after much discussion, they agreed to delete
that one clause from the ordinance. It was agreed that time limits cause
the ordinance to become unenforceable and less safe for the community
not to mention it is labor intensive for our enforcement officers. The
law will go into affect immediately.
Diana Cao, our DDB Sarasota
volunteer and I joined forces and have been working on this since April
of this year. The Commissioners asked for the language we recently used
for Collier ( same as Miami and Seminole) so they could use it as a
guide. Needless to say, we were more than happy to send it! The
Commissioners and Sheriffs department have been incredibly supportive.
So, thank you to the Commissioners for their vote and to Diana for the
teamwork!
Next week, on the 22nd, Hillsborough County in Tampa
will begin discussions with the advisory board for an anti tethering
ordinance and I am looking forward to attending that meeting as well.
Barbara LaPresti, a resident of Tampa and DDB rep., Susie Steiner have
been talking to the powers that be in reference to the need for an
Ordinance. Barbara is spearheading this meeting and doing a wonderful
job.

Couple Arrested in Chained Dog Case

Chamberlin
was found in Greensboro, NC, while someone was mowing the grass, who
knows how he survived as long as he did. His video is incredibly
touching, please watch it and know that he is doing better, thank God
for those at the Guilford County Animal Shelter who are taking care of
him!

Saving Arnie
The
group of angels that banded together save a furry soul in the last 72
hours is stunning. It is so impressive to see how much compassion
and support can be generated from all of you, mostly strangers. I have
received dozens of emails from people putting in groundwork and offering
tips on how to facilitate the rescue of the pit bull we found tethered
in a back yard in Madera, CA three days ago.
THANK YOU all for your hard work.
Gratefully,
I am happy to report that our little friend has a foster home, has
already been to the vet and is in the incredibly capable and loving
hands of Elsie from Sacramento, CA. She works full time, has two
other dogs and volunteers for DOGS DESERVE BETTER. She has been
non-stop, offering to provide medical care, food, a safe place to live
and love while she finds him a permanent home.

Elsie
has named the pup Arnie as a play on words for A&E, the network we
are filming for right now. And, as is no coincidence in this
miracle day, a shortened version of our Executive Producer's name, who
made all of this possible by being very warm and helpful while we are on
location and allowing this side venture to happen.
Below are
some pictures from today's journey. You can start to see the
difference a little love makes already! KEEP IT COMING!!
Arnie has a long way to go as he is scarred in many places from being
chained up, has worms, fleas, is dehydrated and possibly anemic.

How One Rep is Doing Her Part
I
don't have special story but I want Tamira to know how thankful I
am for her strength and willingness to do all that she does. I am
working in my own small way towards the day when no dog will be
chained. I raised money for a bus ad and am now saving for a
billboard to get the message across. Seeing chained dogs has
always tugged on my heart and I couldn't believe my good fortune when I
found a group that felt as I do. Blessings to you Tamira, you are
not alone! —Jan Meir, IL Rep
