  • Valentine Campaign: Don't Miss our Synopsis

The 2006 Valentine Campaign was amazingly successful.

We surpassed our goal by 777 Valentines, delivering Valentines to 5277 dogs!

Don't miss our synopsis and photos, three pages of info and more will make your day.

    Laws, Laws, and More Laws!

Laws against tethering of dogs are becoming all the rage, and we at DDB are thrilled to be on the cutting edge of this movement, providing information and materials as well as support to make it happen. Currently, four states have bills in Committee: PA, CA, MD, and NY. If you live in any of these states, please visit our link to see how you can help, and pass the word along! Also, for PA members, we've now linked to American Humane, who is targetting your local representative. So please, even if you already sent the letter from our site to committee members, revisit and send a letter to your local representative from the American Humane link we've posted. Let's get this bill out of committee and onto the floor for a vote!

Other areas with new laws or considering new laws: Ashland, Oregon; Bloomington, Indiana; San Bernadino, California; Chicago, Illinois; Burnaby, British Columbia

Dogs Pour in After Valentine Campaign

Dogs in need of help are coming out of the woodwork since the Valentine campaign—meet Buddy, given up to rescue in Philipsburg, PA. Tammy and Andy met him and took photos, noting how severely underweight he was. The caretaker claimed that he had just 'grown too fast', which was why he was so skinny...Meanwhile, he chomped down 6 huge dog biscuits! Rhonda Miller of Lewisburg, Pa, stepped up to foster and/or adopt him after seeing his precious face in an internet crosspost.

Grizzly, another PA dog, was helped onto a new life in a foster home by PA reps Bob Goodman and Chris Ameduri, after a major effort by many who cared!

From Denise, Asheville, NC rep: "Just wanted to send some happy news to all.....today Shadow ...the dog abandoned by his "owner" in Lillington, NC is safe and warm in his new foster home with Robin in Waxhaw, NC. Shadow has been vetted and neutered and unfortunately, is heart worm positive."

From Beth Blagg, Ohio rep: "After the letter to the editor was published, my phone has been ringing off the hook! I have lots of people who want to help get a law on our books; & some are quite influential, I might add! So, I'm looking forward to having a lot of activity in my area."

From Heather Carpenter, Orlando rep, "I am forwarding a nice story about a dog that was chained in Miami.  I sent a Spanish brochure and I had my friend, Emily, translate my letter that I send with the brochure into Spanish.  I followed up on the dog because of the Valentine campaign, thinking we could send a Valentine, but apparently, in conjunction with the DDB literature, the whole neighborhood started getting involved and now this dog is going to doggy daycare 5x a week and sleeping inside. This is really amazing especially when we are working with someone who does not speak English."

    A Wonderful Fencing Story

We've received heart-warming photos and an excellent fencing and training story from Vicky Adams of Pet Helpers, Inc. in Oklahoma

Don't miss her account of how she was able to help a family near her save their relationship with their dogs by providing training and a fence with the assistance of DDB's fencing program.

DDB Still Seeking a Vehicle Donation!
    DDB logo

Dogs Deserve Better is actively seeking a donation of a new car or motorcyle for what we believe to be a brilliant contest idea for our Chain Off 2006.

The campaign is growing each year, and if we can pull off our contest we believe we will bring much public notice for our issue of chained dogs and the donor will get plenty of exposure as well!

If you can donate a car, or have any corporate or individual contacts who we may approach with our idea, statistics, and campaign pitch, please e-mail us at info@dogsdeservebetter.org. We are also now able to accept any used vehicle donations for use by DDB for dog transportation, or for liquidation.
