Dear Tammy,
 Chest
puffed out, ego enlarged and ready for confrontation. No I'm not
describing a Pit Bull or any other dogs on the BSL lists. I'm referring
to many of the people in positions of power. For instance Tammy
just received a bill for $600 - one of many bills to come as part
of her appeal process. Tammy rescues a dying dog
and she is prosecuted & the abusers go free. She is appealing
the court's decision and it's proving quite costly. To help with
legal fees, please donate and note "Donation for Legal Fees" in
the item's box.
In Dunkirk, NY for 3 Years Dogs Deserve Better
Representatives Penny Gummo and Chris Dillenburg have been
offering money & help to free a caged dog. The
authorities look at the dog and determine she is well cared for;
case closed. We the people are upset that the CCHS Investigators
are not takinga stricter stance against this abuse & question that
a veterinarian would recommend an arthritic dog be kept in an outdoor
cage. Meet Pepie and formulate your own opinion. Sign Pepie's Petition.
By standing together against animal abuse we give power to the people who care. Join us for Chain-Off 2008 and help us fight against the backyard abuse of man's best friend! |

May 18-24 is Dog Bite Prevention Week
Dogs
that spend their lives on chains often become neurotic, aggressive and
pathologically protective of the patch of dirt where they spend their
lives. Frustrated and unsocialized, chained dogs pose a year-round
danger to unsuspecting children who approach these dogs. Mothers Against Dog Chaining
is working to raise awareness about the connection between perpetual
chaining and aggressiveness during Dog Bite Prevention Week, May 18-24.
Spring when the warmer weather beckons more children outside and
chained dogs can be especially frustrated after another lonely,
agonizing winter.
"Children
are dying because of the misguided belief in certain segments of our
society that it is appropriate to chain a dog to a tree and leave it
there to pace the same patch of dirt and excrement for years on end,"
says Miranda Riane, the mother of an 8-year-old boy who was seriously
mauled by a chained dog in November 2007. "My son did nothing but run
past a dog that spent its life on a short chain. He paid the price for
the owner having taken the negligent and 'easy way out' with regard to
caring for her dog." A number of states, cities and counties have
started passing laws addressing how long people can chain their dogs
due in part to this safety issue.

Breaking News!
Little Pierre Needs Surrogate Mommy

Just this morning DDB got a phone call about a one day old
puppy who's mother died during labor. The mother was chained in
Coalport, PA, reportedly 15 years old (ages seem to EXPAND when
they live on the chain!) but suffice it to say a very old dog -
unspayed, physically incapable, and trying to give birth to
puppies while on a chain. She died from the ordeal, and then
birthed two puppies. One passed overnight, and luckily for Pierre,
the guy's father-in-law called us for help instead of just letting
him die. Please send your utmost love, prayers, and good vibes
for Pierre to live, grow strong, and find love with a wonderful
family!
If you have a nursing mother dog who might accept Pierre
and do not live too far from Tipton, PA, please call us asap at
814.941.7447. We will keep everyone updated, but please send
loving thoughts to Pierre!

Willie is Ready to Find his Family!

Meet Willie: Willie spent his entire 8 years
chained to a tree. He withstood the misery of the elements left out
there through every miserably hot summer, thunderstorm, snow storm and
the frigid temperatures. He is such a wonderful dog and is so very
grateful to be free from this life of solitary confinement. He had his
bath and went to the vet for a checkup where he was found to be heart
worm positive. Willie is now Heartworm free and ready to find his new
family.
Willie LOVES indoor living. He gets along well with the other dog in his foster home.
Before Willie goes into a new home, there will be an application
process and a home visit to ensure he will go into the perfect
environment for him to live and thrive for rest of his life inside with
his family. If you have room in your heart for this sweet boy, contact: 765-664-5376, chainsoff@sbcglobal.net.
