DDB Poster Campaign
The
Dogs Deserve Better poster campaign hits five aspects of
our chained dog awareness efforts: physical needs, the generational
approach (passed down from generation to generation), legislation,
moral obligation and responsibility, and humane education
and emotional needs.
PLEASE
take action to educate in any way possible! We must help the
chained dogs and the penned dogs, because they cannot help themselves.
They deserve better than life on a chain/in a pen, and by placing
these posters near areas where chained dogs live, you make save
a life.

The
Number One Way to make a difference in the lives of chained dogs
and penned dogs in the short term is to get educational information
into the hands of the caretakers.

Dear Tammy,
Chained Cocker Reunites with Man who Loves Him! The Happiest-Ending Rescue Story of the Year.
A story of Man Loses Dog, DDB Rescues and
Returns Dog for Amazing Happy Ending Tale
Dogs
Deserve Better received an urgent e-mail from Zella Anderson of Central
Pennsylvania Animal Alliance, requesting help for Neal Brooks from the
Harrisburg, PA area. Seems
that Neal, a man who uses a wheelchair due to loss of one leg, had gone
to Tennessee with his dog to a relative's home, spent a couple of
months there, but was unable to get a ride home, having to take the bus
back. Read the full story and watch the Reunion Video, priceless!
Dogs
Deserve Better so RARELY gets caretakers who TRULY love their dogs,
that for us to get to pull a dog off a chain and reunite him with a man
who loves him is a very rare treat indeed. We're so pleased to share
this happy moment with all of you.
Speaking of Happy Ending Rescue Stories, Unchain My Heart is shipping from the printer tomorrow, and will start shipping to YOU on Monday!
Curl
up with your favorite companion for a night of reading by the fire.

Rescue Success: Murray
The
e-mail read as such: "I am in need of someone to take a Beagle......he
is about 3 yrs old. We can no longer take care of him. The box we had
for him rotted out and we cannot afford to build/purchase a new one. We
have a canopy shelter for him for now while he was outside but we had a
humane officer here today who issued a warning for no shelter. She gave
me info for the PSPCA in Center Hall and they have a 3 week waiting
list. We have tried numerous times to get him to a shelter or humane
society and there's always a waiting list. This has been going on for
months...please help us find him a place...Read More, and see Murray's foster mom's photo blog of his first night, and his letter to his rescuers.
Make a Difference for a Chained Dog
Dear Friends,
Several months ago, Dogs Deserve Better announced the launch of their new website: unchainpadogs.com,
a site dedicated solely to promoting PA legislation to end the widely
tolerated practice of chaining dogs for life or for extended periods of
time.
More importantly, the website was created to share
information about PA House Bill 1254 and offer advocates a way to get
involved and to help move this bill forward.
Today we are asking
organizations and individuals to join the Pennsylvania Coalition to End
Tethering and help us end this inhumane practice.
We can not do this without your support and your direct involvement.
Click HERE to access the Coalition Sign Up page.
As
a coalition member, you will receive e-mail updates of legislative
activity on PA HB1254 (anti-tethering legislation) and Action Alerts
when your immediate response is needed.
Please share this e-mail with your network/cross post and help us build support.
Thank You.

Thayne to speak in Orlando at the 11th Annual Holiday Dinner for the Animals
We are excited about this year's speaker!! Mark your calendars!
Each
year animal advocates gather for an evening of delicious Vegan food,
camaraderie, some of the best nationally known animal rights speakers,
and of course those raffle prizes!! Do not miss out on the event
that some call a "holiday tradition" in central Florida. For the 11th
anniversary celebration dinner we have some exciting things planned you
will not want to miss! This year's speaker is Tamira Thayne, founder and CEO of Dogs Deserve Better.
With
Orange county having already adopted an ordinance, and with Seminole
county adopting one very soon, we couldn't think of a more timley
speaker to speak on behalf of chained dogs in central Florida. If you
want to learn how you can help chained dogs in your community, you
won't want to miss this dinner and fundraiser for Dogs Deserve Better.
WHAT: 11th annual Holiday Dinner for the Animals
WHEN: Saturday December 12th, beginning at 6:00 PM
WHERE: Garden Café, located at 810 West Colonial Drive in downtown Orlando
COST: Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door. *For reduced fee, payments must be received by December 10th. Price includes dinner selections from 8 Vegan dishes and iced or hot tea. All proceeds will benefit Dogs Deservfe Better. An RSVP is required For information please call 407-968-2400
*
IMPORTANT: Many of you know from attending past dinners that dinner is
served first and then we have the speaker. This year the speaker
will speak first and then dinner will be served. Tamira will
speak promptly at 6:30 PM. That said, we advise that you arrive
in plenty of time to get seated and checked in. Paying in advance
will also help to reserve and guarantee your spot.

From Area Rep Amanda Barnett Green SUCCESS!!!
The City of Hobbs, New Mexico now has a ban on fixed point chaining and
have now set the standards for more "humane" tethering systems. They
also have a tiered system set up to reclaim an animal which includes
people paying a reclaim fee of $250 if you want to get your dog back
intact or you can pay $60 and ...they
will spay and neuter it for you. IF your animal is picked up and it is
spayed or neutered, has a city license, vaccinated, and microchipped,
then you can reclaim it the first time for free.

Giving dogs their rightful freedom chain free
by Ginnie Maurer
"For
to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way
that respects and enhances the freedom of others." (Nelson Mandela)
Dogs
don't chain themselves to trees, rusted-out cars, stakes in the ground.
Nor can they cast off these chains by themselves. We chained them; we
must free them. Not to roam aimlessly on their own. After all, we
humans domesticated them over 15,000 years ago; therefore, we are
responsible for their safety and well-being. We must unchain them and
bring them into our homes and hearts if we are to be their true
guardians. http://www.journal-news.net/page/content.detail/id/527364.html

From Nebraska Area Rep Gayla Hausman
After feeling so isolated in this poor, uneducated little corner of
southeast Nebraska, I'm finally getting the BEST connections. I'm
starting a campaign to "Unchain Wymore". The dogs in this town are
almost all chained and penned. I'm not kidding. I bet four out of every
five houses have chained dogs. I'm getting a swarm of volunteers and we
are going to go door to door, hand out DDB information, spay and neuter
information, offer dog food to those in need, and try to get a look at
their pets so we can identify cruelty cases, and pets in serious need
of vetting. This is a very very poor community. They desperately need
educated. I am asking the newspapers to come out and take photo's of
our efforts and run a story. I know they will do it.
So,
I sent out this information and asked some rescue people to cross post
it for me, and OMG....it has been incredible. I immediately got a call
from a gal that started a pet food bank in Lincoln, NE who offered dog
food for our cause. Yesterday I picked up at least 2100 lbs. of food!
I've also been contacted by a guy who volunteers for Hearts United. I'm
sure you have heard of them. They are national, but based about an hour
and a half from me. He is going to a meeting on Thursday and asking for
their support!!! Unreal. I've had citizens write and say they
want to help go door to door, and then another wonderful thing
happened. A woman is trying to get Cause for Paws to support me /us
financially. This woman retired and wanted to devote her life to
helping animals. So she opened a used clothing store in Lincoln, NE and
sends all proceeds to a handful of organizations. She wants to meet me
and learn about DDB!!
After feeling so isolated, and not even
being able to get someone to man my tabling events, I feel like I have
finally broke into the animal welfare association and am getting the
help I so desperately needed.
We are going to move mountains. I
now have the backing I need to move into the bigger areas like Omaha
and Nebraska. I'm so proud of what we do, and others are too. I'm so
happy to be able to finally educate and share our mission.
