August first, 2008 was quite a lucky day for six neglected dogs which were kept in filth and extremely deplorable conditions for who knows how long. They had no food or water bowls although water was provided by a good Samaritan. Flies and rats were their only company.
Three of the dogs were boarded up in a barn stall for literally months. Being totally isolated, they could not get away from their own excrement and the foul stench that eminated from their small enclosure. We had to trudge along 5 feet of disgusting muck, which was at least a foot deep. Finally we freed them from the living hell which they had endured for so long. Read more here.
Another dog, Bruno, had his head stuck between two metal grids of fencing. His unfortunate companions, Della and Dyna, wanted out badly. My husband worked for fifteen minutes to remove the door to free them.
They were all skittish at first but eventually welcomed the leashes that would pull them to freedom. One particular dog,
Bud, was kept on a rope in a small living area, the floor of which was mostly covered with smelly, loose stool..
Ruger, his ears bleeding from fly strikes, was kept in the back stall behind Bud.
Tyra was crammed in cage, which was kept in an upstairs room. It was much too small for her.
Hoss, was the seventh dog to be rescued, but due to his advanced degraded condition, he had to be euthanized. The picture says it all. He was freed from his pain and discomfort and will suffer no more.
The other six are now safe and recovering well.
All reeked horribly, had fleas, whips, hookworms, many fly strikes and very long nails .They've all been vet checked, Frontlined and wormed. Bud had 2 tumors and double dew claws which were removed. He also had a broken K-9 pulled.
We have been told that Bruno needs eye surgery.
We took the worst ones, so there are still more to remove.
Despite the ugliness they endured, they are all enjoying a new outlook on life.
Bruno (the dog whose head was stuck in grids) had nails that were worn down to the quick because of trying to dig his way out. Also, there were no food bowls for these dogs. She basically threw food in their area. I can also tell this by the reaction of the dogs I have here. They back away when you set down the bowls. All the dogs had hair loss under their necks where they have been chained. The collar rubbed their hair off.
