Molly,
PA
Molly
came from Somerset, PA where's she's lived chained for the past
four years. She is a 4-5 year old, long-haired shepherd. She came
into rescue already spayed, highly unusual, but had a hernia in
her stomach that required immediate surgery. Molly needs help paying
off her vet bills from surgery, but also needs a new, snuggly bed,
a pretty collar, and just loves toys that make a lot of noise! And
food, of course...all treats work for Molly. She absolutely LOVES
to snuggle and have her belly rubbed. To find out more about adopting
her, visit our adoption page. To mail her a package, send it to
Dogs Deserve Better, P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684.

Pebbles,
NY
Pebbles
had a rough start in life. She was physically abused as a
tiny puppy, then chained outside. But she, like so many other
abused dogs, has the wonderful gift of being able to forgive
and forget. She is truly a unique, beautiful dog.
She is a very sweet, trusting, little girl who doesn't have a mean
bone in her body! She just loves to be loved. She is
playful, but not wild, and loves to snuggle on the couch or in bed
with you. She gets along great with other dogs at the doggie
daycare, as well as my own dog, Valentine, a Husky/Shepherd mix.
She loves stuffed squeaky toys, rope pull toys, and needs a new
collar and leash. She also needs help with her vet bills.
Pebbles currently dines on ACD (Alternative Companion Diet - Venison
and Rice). To adopt Pebbles, contact Kim Schena at (716) 465-3097,
kaschena@aol.com. To mail Pebbles a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org

Bandit,
PA
Bandit
lived his entire six years until now chained to a doghouse in Blandburg,
PA. He's thrilled to be inside living with a great foster family.
He's vetted, neutered, and up to date with shots. He loves to run
and plan, sniff around...ok, he does like the occasional garbage-can
snack, but his foster mom doesn't seem to enjoy it when he does
his investigating. He has a big, black smiling mouth, and it looks
like he's laughing sometimes! Everyone thinks it's cute. Bandit
would love his own home for the holidays, and also a new bed, toys,
lots of treats, and a new garbage can with easy access for him (ok,
the last one's a joke)! To adopt Bandit, fill out the adoption form
on the adoption page. To mail a package to Bandit, please e-mail

Sable,
PA
Sable
spent the first three years of her life at the end of a heavy chain.
Neighborhood kids teased her, at time she had no shelter and the
main supply of food and water came from kind neighbors trying to
help. The owner finally surrendered her in October. Her foster mom
could use some of the following: Nylabones- the ones for hearty
chewers, a nice leash, good walking harness and an all-weather dog
bed. Of course anything is appreciated! She is currently being
fostered in a kennel but is being worked with every day so she learns
to trust humans again and will hopefully be adopted. To adopt Sable,
contact Kim Obert, Shickshinny, PA rep at obert@epix.net. To

Beauty,
PA
Beauty
is a sweet girl who was rescued from a hoarding situation where
she was living outside with many other dogs. They were given up
to our New York rep, and Beauty came down here to be fostered by
Tammy. She is very easy-going, gets along great with other dogs,
cats, kids...Beauty pretty much sleeps most of the day, but when
she gets in a spunky mood-watch out, you would think that she was
a pup again! Beauty loves a soft, comfy bed, and a new collar and
leash. She would make a great addition to a family that wants a
laidback, sweet old hound dog to love ...To adopt Beauty, please
fill out the adoption form on the adoption page. To mail Beauty

Val,
NC
Val
is short for Valentine. His guardian's chained him outside
when he was just a pup, only 8 weeks old. They left him to
fend for himself against the cold and other animals. He was
severely underweight and infested with all kinds of intestinal worms. People
would stare in disbelief that someone would put such a small
dog on a chain. A nice lady offered his "owner"
some money and they agreed to sell him immediately. He went
home with a nice foster family and I am awaiting to be adopted into
my forever home. To adopt Val, contact Denise Bitz at 828-808-9435

Nakita,
PA
Nakita
was found by her foster mom dragging a chain and with an embedded
collar. She got her some help, and then the Dog Warden took her
to the Philipsburg Humane Society. Don't ever go there! They would
not let foster her mom get her back out, she had to fight to save
her life for three weeks. Thank God she fought for her, because
she's still alive! Now she needs a home of her own. She loves to
play, and would love to go for hikes in the woods with you. She
doesn't do so well with cats, small children, or other dogs. If
you can adopt her, please e-mail sdk3nrk@aol.com or call her foster
mom at 814.687.4278. To mail a package, e-mail tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org

Amos,
NC
This
is Amos. Amos spent most of his life chained
up outside with his 4 other dog brothers. Recently, Amos's
owner went to jail for murder and lucky for Amos, a rep from DDB
stepped up to help Amos find the inside loving home that he deserves.
Amos loves everyone including dogs and cats! He is a great
boy and very appreciative of the new life he has now in foster care
waiting for his forever home! He would love a new dog bed and some
toys. To adopt Amos, contact Denise Bitz at 828-808-9435 RNVET@aol.com.

Nala,
PA
Nala
came to us with her puppies awhile ago, after living chained for
life. The puppies have been all adopted, but Nala is still in her
foster home, and now needs a home of her own. Nala does wonderfully
with kids, fine with cats, and fine with laid back dogs. She REALLY
loves kids, and so would be a great candidate for being the only
dog in a young family household. Don't miss out on a wonderful addition
to your family! Nala is well worth the wait, and will fill your
home with love and affection. She would like a new bed, collar,
leash, and toys. To adopt Nala, fill out the adoption application,
and to mail her a package, send it to P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684.

Gouda,
ME
Gouda
is a 6 year old Pit Bull who has lived his entire life on a chain.
He belonged to a backyard breeder that has 20 other dogs chained
out. Gouda was released to DDB because he is "too big"
to breed. We were told that he would never adjust to living
inside. As you can see, Gouda has adjusted to being a part
of a family quite nicely. In fact, he prefers not to go outside
at all. Gouda is not a fan of the cold, and would appreciate
a warm winter coat for the holiday. He weighs 48 lbs, but
has a big head and lots of brawn. He would probably take a "Large".
Gouda also is a big fan of Rawhide bones. To adopt Gouda, contact
slricher66@yahoo.com. To send a package to Gouda, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org

Magnum,
PA
Meet
Magnum, for experienced dog guardians only! Magnum
is one of those dogs who did not do well on the chain, and was taught
by his caretaker to be mean. You should see the huge chain he was
previously on before being released into foster care with us at
Dogs Deserve Better! He has come a LONG LONG way since coming into
foster care, and currently does great with everyone he knows...dogs,
cats, kids, adults...he still needs work with strangers. Best Friends
has been working with us to help get him acclimated to strangers.
He is sweet and loving to those he accepts. He DEFINITELY needs
a fenced yard. He just LOVES toys with squeakers in them, as well
as all food and treats, he's quite the chowhound. He also loves
a good warm bed. To mail a package to Magnum, send it to P.O. Box
23, Tipton, PA 16684.

Tyco,
ME
Tyco
is a 14 month old Harrier mix. He was adopted from a shelter
in TN as a puppy. He then spent the next year living on a
chain before his "family" decided that they did not have
time for him and returned him to the shelter. Tyco was then
scheduled to be euthanized due to lack of space. We are taking
Tyco into rescue. He will be arriving to his foster home in
Bangor, Maine this weekend where he will enjoy indoor living and
the company of two canine sisters. Tyco probably will be thankful
for just about anything as he has grown up with nothing. He
is quite a strong boy and could use a no-pull harness from Santa.
He would also enjoy treats and toys! To adopt Tyco, contact slricher66@yahoo.com.

King,
PA
King
lived a chained life in West Virginia before coming to Dogs Deserve
Better. This is King's second year in our program. He had a home
with an inexperienced guardian, but that didn't work out. He is
a bit of an odd fellow, and needs someone who understands him and
tolerates his Kingness. He just loves his favored adults, but he's
not so crazy about most other dogs. King would love a new bed and
some toys to call his own. If interested in adopting King, fill
out the adoption form. If you'd like to mail King a package, e-mail

Fred,
ME
Fred
is a one-year old Australian Shepherd mix that has spent his entire
life life living outside. His owner turned him into a kill
shelter along with his sister, Ethel. Ethel was taken by another
rescue leaving Fred alone in his kennel and in danger of being euthanized. His
life of isolation has left him very shy and undersocialized.
Fred will be arriving in Maine this coming weekend where he will
go to a loving foster home. Fred would appreciate a rawhide
bone and some durable chew toys. To adopt Fred, contact slricher66@yahoo.com.
To send a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org for the address.

Dexter,
PA
Dexter
is perhaps our saddest case here this year. He was a chained dog
in West Virginia who's caretakers moved and abandoned him. Someone
set him free, so he lived as a stray, and the vets think he got
caught in a trap. His right front leg was broken over 4 months ago,
and he just was captured a couple weeks ago by a WV rescue and transferred
to DDB. The leg is beyond repair at this point, and will be amputated
December 4. Dexter is quite a sweet dog, and could really use a
great home to recuperate from his surgery, and a loving caretaker
for a three-legged but lucky boy. He also needs a nice soft bed, new collar, loves squeaky toys, and sme help with his vet bills. To adopt Dexter,
fill out the adoption form; to mail him a package, send it to P.O.
Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684.

Charlie,
ME
Charlie
is a young lab mix who was brought to us by a local animal control
officer. Charlie was living outside and rarely fed - so he
arrived to rescue skin and bones. As a result, Charlie suffers
from serious food aggression issues, and may not be ready to go
to an adoptive home for quite some time. He has gained quite
a bit of weight and height since he has been in foster care.
Charlie loves squeeky toys and any kind of treats! To adopt Charlie,
contact slricher66@yahoo.com. To send a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org

Mia,
PA
Mia
was found running down the road in Arkansas, dragging her chain.
She ended up at the shelter, and we pulled her out and got her on
the transport to PA. She just arrived 12/1, and, in typical Akita
fashion, has proceeded to make some changes around here right quick
in terms of who is the boss! She is a gorgeous young red and white
girl, and has some training needs to be worked on. We've already
found out she likes her own bed, as well as soft toys and treats.
To adopt Mia, fill out the adoption form on the adoption page. To
mail her a package, send it to P.O. Box 23, Tipton, PA 16684.

Milana,
OR
Milana
is a previously chained, pregnant APBT and her 10 puppies.
Milana is a super sweet girl who loves everyone. She is still
pretty timid until she gets to know you but then she warms up.
Milana is still a puppy herself (about 16 months old) so she
LOVES toys and treats and still needs to be spayed. Her puppies
are 6 weeks old now and could use more toys as well and treats since
we are working on basic obedience (sit, here etc.) To inquire
about adopting Milana, e-mail msshellyd@comcast.net. To send a package

Zip,
AZ
Originally
form Harlan Kentucky, Zip was found as a stray
and taken in and put outside on an exercise trolley-he apparently
did not get along well with the "house dog". Dogs Deserve
Better Ohio answered an appeal for help, he was brought into rescue
and was found to have whip, round, hook and heartworms. He has been
treated for heartworms, is neutered, housetrained, UTD on vaccines
and is waiting for a forever home for his rambunctiopus lively spirit.
He is probably about 8 years old, does well with female dogs and
most male dogs. Good with children, he weights about 33 #, small
for a Border Collie. Contact Lois, who is in Arizona for the winter,
at 937 684 7421. Zip would love toys or Nylabones for the holiday.

Loki,
NC
This
is Loki, he was chained all his life, this picture
is his first day of freedom. Loki was actually owned by a deputy
sheriff. I left information at their house about our organization
because the family wasn't home. I got a call from the dep. sheriff
informing me of the fact that he was a deputy and for me to stay
off of his property, I tried to reason with him but it didn't
work. Loki actually ended up at the shelter. I got a call from the
deputy about a month later, telling me I could help Loki now
if I still wanted to, that he was at the shelter about to be put
down. Loki would enjoy some chew toys, he has went through at least
a dozen, I can still remember the look on his face when he bit down
on his first squeaky toy:) I'm sure he would enjoy a new bed too,
he chewed his first one to shreds. I guess he thought it was another
toy, so now he is sharing with everyone else. Loki is up to date
on his shots now but still needs to be neutered. To adopt Loki,
e-mail Angela Broadhead at pomsgalore@yahoo.com. To mail a package,

Diesel,
AR
In
July I was called by someone who worked at the local animal services
shelter. It was almost 100 degrees out, and there was a black dog
"living on the gas pump" at the corner gas station. I
drove there and found this poor dog, totally exhausted and panting
there on the gas pump. He was covered in ticks. He did have a collar
on, though, so I hooked up a leash to him and thought I'd just lead
him into my car. He ran as hard as he could run. He still won't
have anything to do with a leash, and getting a collar off and on
him is a chore. There are so many chained dogs here that most everyone
feels sure he escaped his chain and never wants to get back on one.
Diesel's good with kids and loves just about everyone and everything
(except cars, trucks, leashes and collars). Diesel could use a bed
of his own. We don't have enough for everyone here at this time.
He's about 55-60 pounds, so he would need a large one. He loves
chewies of ALL kinds. To adopt Diesel, e-mail Melanie Brakeville
at mbrakeville@gmail.com. To send a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org

Buster
Brown, FL
Buster
Brown was rescued from his chain in February 2006. He
was terribly thin, HW positive, infested with fleas and parasites
and his toenails were so long, they were starting to curl under
his pads. He has since also been diagnosed with cancer. In
September 2006, Buster’s left hind leg was amputated due to
a mast cell tumor. Ultrasound results showed no spread of
the cancer, but we’ve been told this type of cancer usually
returns within a few years. Buster is a Boxer/Pit Bull mix
and he is only about three years old. He is super friendly
and loving. He seems okay with small dogs and cats, but does
not care for other large dogs. Buster loves to chase water coming
from the hose and loves to play fetch and chase after a tennis ball
or squeaky toy. He enjoys belly rubs and is very sweet. He
would make an awesome companion. Buster could use toys and treats
for the holidays. He currently has a bed, as he has moved
out of his crate. To adopt Buster Brown, e-mail Heather Carpenter
at Dogsdeservebetter_centralflorida@earthlink.net. To send a package,

Oreo,

Oreo,
a chained Great Dane mix, was often tangled around the post and
lived amidst garbage before being lucky enough to be given up to

Litchfield, Illinois, and is a sweetheart of a dog. To send a package,

Niko,
MD
Niko
lived in a pen for a year and a half. He would routinely escape
and was found standing in the middle of a busy road in early November. Niko
was taken to the county pound and scheduled to be euthanized when
his owners never claimed him. DDB learned of his fate and
evaluated him. After discovering the sweet and lovable boy he is,
DDB rep Lynne Gillis rescued him and he is now living in foster
care in Southern Maryland. Niko was emaciated and
is still about 15 pounds underweight. Niko was covered in ticks
and has terrible flea strikes on his ears. Niko will never
live outside again and he will always have the company of others
in his life from this day forward. Niko would love to have
a new dog bed for a 50+ lb. dog, squeaky toys, a new leash, and
funding for his vet care. Thank you for giving this special
boy the love and care he never knew. To adopt Niko, e-mail Lynne
Gillis at LYNNEROSIE@aol.com. To send Niko a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org

Apollo
and Scotty, OR
Meet
Apollo and Scotty. They
are 11 week old Shepherd/Lab mix puppies that were rescued from
a small pen with their 6 other littermates. They were very
shy, scared little guys and Maria and her family have done a GREAT
job socializing them. Scotty is a really laid back and calm
puppy who loves to snuggle. Apollo is outgoing, adventuresome
and LOVES to play. They could use toys to keep them from playing
with things they shouldn't play with and collars and leashes as
they are learning to walk nice without pulling. They are vaccinated,
but as always, need to be neutered. To adopt one or both puppies,

Rebel,
PA
Rebel
is 1 year old and was found chained up in the backyard of an abandoned
house where the owners moved. He has since been relinquished to
me. He has worms but is receiving treatment for them, and will be
neutered after theworms are gone. He gets along with male and female
dogs of all sizes, unknown with cats, but loves to lick people to
death! His vet care is currently being provided by other rescuers
who found him but had no room to take him in. Rebel could really
use a strong, non-plastic boy-colored collar as he is wearing a
pink one right now to keep his tags on. He is a puller so a choke
collar or harness along with his own leash would be good for our
morning walks. He seems to prefer small toys and rawhides over the
big ones so he can get them in his mouth. To adopt Rebel, e-mail
Sharon Dalrymple at dbba23@yahoo.com. To send a package, e-mail
Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org for the address.

Beau,
OR
This
is Beau's second year in the program, he is still
seeking a forever home. Except for the past year, Beau, a pitbull
mix, lived his life at the end of a chain. Lucky for him, his owner
finally did the right thing and surrendered him to Dogs Deserve
Better. Beau loves playing and running with the other dogs,
and doesn't mind being low man on the totem pole. One of his favorite
things to do is to lay on his dog bed and play with a chew toy,
both of which he has never had. He is not food or toy aggressive.
He tolerates his baths very well and likes going for rides in the
car. He now knows a few commands and walks pretty good on a leash.
A home without cats would be best. He has been neutered and
is UTD on shots. His foster mom will also assist with transport
if needed. If you have any questions about this very special rescue
or would like to meet Beau, please email Ruth at rjainor@msn.com
or call 503-881-6055. To send a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org
for the address.

Sasha,
PA
Sasha
was kept outside 24/7 with only a small space under a deck for shelter.
She cried for attention to no avail. Neighbors recognized what a
nice dog she was and took pity on her. Eventually she was rescued
from these conditions. In spite of spending all three years of her
life on a four foot chain with a tow chain for a collar, Sasha is
very affectionate and quite bright. Upon meeting us, she immediately
rolled over on her back to have her belly rubbed. Sasha is currently
at a kennel being boarded since there are no foster homes available.
A trainer is working with her several times a week to teach her
to walk on a leash, sit, stay, etc. She is making wonderful progress.
Sasha REALLY needs a family to call her own. Please consider making
Sasha part of your family. Sasha could use a bed for a new home,
as well as toys and treats. To adopt her, e-mail kslagle11@email.com.
To mail her a package, e-mail Tammy@dogsdeservebetter.org for the
address.
