Dogs Deserve Better
Sponsor US for Your Holiday Gifts!
Do you
want your holiday gift giving to be about something more important
this year? Sponsor a formerly Chained Dog or Penned Dog, and we will
send you or your loved one a personalized gift letter ($15 donations
and above) with a picture of your sponsored foster dog and his/her
story.

• See last year's fosters with their gifts, so
touching! •
Give a formerly chained or
penned foster dog a taste of first-ever Holiday Cheer! As one of
Dogs Deserve Better's most beloved campaigns, the annual Sponsor a Fostered Dog program has reached
out and touched many a Holiday heart and home.
Santa Paws Does it AGAIN!
For the Third Year, our Santa Paws is offering a match for all Sponsors of $50 or more, up to a total of $5000! This means a gift card for up to 100 dogs in the DDB foster program if we get 100 $50-dollar matches for our dogs!
Just choose one of our special
boys or girls and with your donation or gift box sent directly to
them, you can ensure that one life is now not only safe from harm,
but happy, beloved, and spoiled (as they deserve to be!) Our
goal this year is to provide each dog in our program with at least a
$100 gift card, in addition to any extra support needed and your
packages. Your sponsor gift may also provide food, housing
and veterinary care for Dogs Deserve Better foster dogs throughout
the U.S. in the upcoming year, and help teach others about the
plight of the chained dogs who are left to languish in the back
yard.
This is our first year with rescued dogs at the Good Newz Rehab Center in Smithfield, Virginia. We are most grateful for all you've done to help us start to build this wonderful facility for our dogs, see below for the dogs we currently have in-house, as well as the wonderful fosters we have across the country.
IMPORTANT, PLEASE
NOTE:**If
your gift donation is meant for someone other than you, please
provide the information (name and address of recipient and name and
address of sender) by clicking on "Name and Address of Recipient."
(This should be right below your name and
address.) We will then mail out a
special gift letter to the address you provide featuring your chosen
sponsored dog. If you'd like to mail packages directly to foster
parents of a certain dog, please contact info@dogsdeservebetter.org for the foster parent's address. Also, many of you worry that one
dog will be left out...not to fear, our dogs share with each other!
So sponsor who you like, and we will ensure they ALL get taken care
of. If mailing packages, you may want to check with Kristi first to
make sure your dog isn't receiving more packages than others, so
that all dogs receive packages in the mail.**
• Plus, any sponsor donations over $25 will get a FREE
2012 Dogs Deserve Better Calendar, while quantities last. These
calendars are being VERY well-received, make a great addition to
your home or office. (a $12.97 value) •
"I just LOVE the Christmas program.
You would be nuts not to participate! It's so much fun to see the
dogs open their presents and make claim to their new toys and
beds. And the shopping trip to buy them the necessities was just
fabulous. I am so thankful every year that we have this wonderful
opportunity. Thanks for making this available to
us."—Gayla Hausman, Area Representative, Beatrice,

DEISEL, MO
Deisel - He
is a gorgeous Chesepeke Bay Retriever who was purchased as a pup to
ride with a truck driver across the country. Deisel did not receive
the proper training he needed and had too much energy to remain calm
enough for such long journeys, so out on the chain he went! Deisel
was rescued by DDB and is now proven to be a very loving, well
behaved, goofy and fun boy.
Deisel absolutely loves playing with toys, balls and anything
else he can pull off the kitchen counter :-) He is a real beauty and
does need to have plenty of excercise. Deisel would love to have
toys that can keep him occupied, anything that he can take outside
and play with in the fenced yard and loves treats and chews!
If you'd like to adopt or foster Deisel e-mail Melody Whitworth
at powerofthepaw@yahoo.com.
To mail Deisel a package,

TEGAN, Hampton, VA
Tegan - Tegan is a 1 year old American Pitbull Terrier. She was rescued by DDB in April 2011. She was chained and abandoned at a warehouse in Gardena, Ca. She had chemical and cigarette burns burns on her head, legs and stomach. She is spayed and current on shots. She is super social and loves to play and run.
She would love to be part of your family, too! She could
use a nice dog bed, some indestructible toys, and some flea, tick,
and heart worm meds.

COWBOY, Good Newz Rehab Center
Cowboy - Cowboy is one hunka hunka burnin' love! We call him cowboy because
he looks like a cross between a pit and a cow…he might even be part
Harlequin Dane! Life after the chain is all picnic to Cowboy. (and
he'd eat all day long if you let him too!)
He is the sweetest thing, and just loves to snuggle
quietly up against you for some awesome couch cuddles. Cowboy is new
to the realm of toys, and he's starting to love to play fetch with
balls, so he'd love a nice big dog bed, some indestructible toy
balls, and some flea, tick, and heart worm meds. Photo by Michele

HEFNER, Good Newz Rehab Center
Hefner - Hefner was named for the Hef, and we don't want to
get technical about why, but let's just say he's old but he still
considers himself quite the ladies man! Hef had a tough life out on
the end of a chain near the center in Virginia, and he's just
starting to get the hang of house training, playing, and daily
walks. But he likes it!,

WYATT, KY
Wyatt - He really
needs a bed. His foster mom was going to make him one like she does
her beagles, but she realized it would take a truckload of stuffing
to fill it up. She says toys are fine too, but a bed is what he
really needs.
Wyatt continues to blossom more and more every
day - the three years he spent on a chain did not break his spirit
despite some separation anxiety and fears that he initially had.
Instead of a life where he was even shot with a BB gun, he has now a
foster family that loves him and is working hard to find him a great
forever home.
In the past, Christmas was just
another cold lonely day, tethered to a shed. This Christmas he will
join his foster family in a celebration of love and warmth! He has
asked Santa to bring him a nice big soft bed.

ANTHONY, Good Newz Rehab Center
Anthony
from VA - Poor Anthony was nothing more than a
skeleton with fur when he came into rescue! Although he's gained
about 5 lbs., he still has a way to go. He loves nothing more than
some high quality dog treats, and he could use a nice dog bed, some
indestructible toys, and some flea, tick, worm and heart worm meds.

JADA, Good Newz Rehab Center
Jada - We believe Jada was thrown from a
moving vehicle, but she's getting better every day, and as soon as
she's spayed she will be ready for her forever home! What an awesome
little pibble she is….young, just the right amount of mischievous to
make you fall in love with her. What's not to love?
Jada would love, in addition to
a new inside home and family, a soft doggie bed to lay on, plus some
toys, treats, and some flea, tick, worm and heart worm meds. Photo by Michele Oxton.

He loves living inside and enjoys having his belly rubbed for hours!

BESSIE, MA
Bessie - Bessie lived in a cage at her owners house for 7 years.
She never got walked. All she got was food. She was 129 pounds when
she was surrendered to me. She is now about 115 and losing. She is a
sweet senior lab who loves to play ball. She was so scared when she
first came to rescue. She panted and drooled all the time. Now she
lives at a doggie day care where they take her home at night if no
other dogs are staying over.
Bessie would love a ball and
probably a soft blankie to put on her Kuranda bed that she sleeps on
at the doggie day care. NO FOOD since she was called morbidly obese
by our vet and has 40 pounds to lose. A squeaky toy would be great
to keep in her room as well.

and return him to her. I said NO and took him into rescue.

REGGIE, IN
Reggie - Reggie, who is approximately seven months old, was chained behind a house with no shelter for most of this past summer. His foster parents say that he is playful and gets along well with other dogs and cats. He has responded well to his potty training and is completely vetted and up-to-date on all shots. He is looking for a home, perhaps with children to play with. He is hoping Santa Paws will remember him with some toys and perhaps a nice sweater for these cold Indiana winters. LILLY, Good Newz Rehab Center
Lilly - Lilly is our newest rescue at the Good Newz Rehab Center, and we were her last chance at rehabilitation. She was rescued from a chain in OK, but she has a very high prey drive and is a bit on the hyper side. No fosters could tolerate her for long! But she's here now, and we love her, and she's slowly learning to calm down and she adores her daily walks. She also is GREAT with dogs, just no small animals.
Lillycould use some grain-free food, a nice dog bed, some treats, some pull toys, and some flea, tick, worm and heart worm meds. Photo by Tyler Dog.

MAC, MO
Mac - This is Mac. Mac is a three to four year old Pit Bull who was found chained in a barn, wrapped around a go-cart and debris. He was not getting food and water on a regular basis.
Mac was extremely thin, withdrawn and scared. After visiting the local vet, it was determined that Mac had a tick-born virus in addition to being half starved to death and dehydrated.
A week of antibiotics, some TLC and a proper diet, Mac turned the corner and is now healthy, happy and ready for his new home! Mac is a big boy with a twenty-two inch head and his chest is twelve inches wide! Mac is a lover, a big Hunk of Burnin Love! Mac loves to chew and play! He would love some big strong Kong toys, large bones, chews and some indestructable toys!

LULU, MO
Lulu - Lulu is about one-and-a-half years old and was tied to a tree in MS and found by joggers who fed her for ten days and then looked for a rescue. I agreed to take her in my home and she is adjusting slowly but nicely.
She is fearful, shy and spunky at the same time. She is not a fear biter although she was growly and showing teeth at the vet her third day here. Since then she has settled in and never has shown her teeth again. I believe it was the over-abundance of new people, places and things. Since she had just arrived from a fifteen hour transport, then to be handled, vetted etc, it was too much for her too soon.
Now she barks if she sees someone new in the home but never shows her teeth ever. She is afraid of the threshold of my doorway but will come in thru the doggie door as long as the flap is up.
She is a good eater and loves dogs and cats and is respectful of humans. She doesn’t like her front paws touched so I touch them daily and after three weeks she let me clip her nails. Lulu is sweet, playful and wants to please.
Lulu loves rope toys, small squeaky animals and probably any small squeaky toy or ball. Lulu could use a brush for her hair and some shampoo too. Lulu will be happy with anything to call her own
